From the regular posts I see by mums on social media, one thing is clear – many are carrying a heavy load. They’re exhausted, stretched thin, and often feel like every day is a battle.

Why So Many Mums Feel Overwhelmed

Financial stress, relationship struggles, and the constant pressure of keeping everything afloat leave a lot of mums feeling overwhelmed. On top of that, concerns about their children — whether it’s bullying, challenging behaviours, or potential developmental issues add another layer of worry.

Whatever the source of the worry, the emotional toll mums carry is heavy and often invisible.

This matters, because a mum is often the backbone of her family. She is the one who holds everything together, and shows up day after day for the people she loves.

And for mums raising daughters, there’s something even more powerful to remember. A little girl learns how to care for herself by watching her mother do the same. She learns to value her own well-being by seeing her mum value hers.

This post is dedicated to you, the mum who gives so much. It’s here to offer support, encouragement, and a reminder that you matter too!

Mums are very good at prioritising the needs of others. Sometimes so good, in fact, that their own needs slip to the bottom of the list. Routine health checks are often one of the first things to be put off or forgotten.

Are you up to date with yours?

One of the most powerful forms of self-care you can practise as a mum is staying on top of your health.

No matter your age, family history, or how well you feel right now, keeping up with regular health checks is important.

Every woman is different, with her own medical history and risk factors. But regardless of our differences, there are a few key screenings and check-ups that all mums should aim to keep up to date with.

7 important tests all women should keep up to date with:

  1. General GP Check-up (may include blood pressure, weight, heart rate, temparture checks and blook tests).
  2. Dental Clean and Check-up
  3. Eye Check
  4. Skin Check
  5. Cervical Screening Test
  6. Mammogram
  7. Bowel Cancer Screening Test

Here is a simple but super helpful Medical Appointment Tracker to help you stay on top of your appointments, procedures, medications, and supplements. It also includes space to note when your next appointment is due — so nothing slips through the cracks.

The first thing to disappear when you become a mother, is the free time you once took for granted. That’s why finding even a little time each day to prioritise YOU is so important.

For me, making time for myself didn’t come naturally. At first, it felt selfish—like I was putting myself ahead of my family. I felt guilty and uncomfortable doing anything just for me.

But then, I asked myself: If I stay exhausted and unhappy, how does that help anyone? The truth is, it doesn’t.

I realised that looking after myself was actually one of the best things I could do for my family. The more I did things that filled me up, the more patient, present, and joyful I became.

I’ve created an awesome little Self-Care Planner Pack to help you start prioritising your well-being.

Inside you’ll find a weekly and monthly planner, a list of self-care ideas to inspire you, and uplifting quotes to keep you motivated. I encourage you to give yourself the gift of time and care. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.

There are two reasons why I’m passionate about mums finding time for their own health and wellbeing. One is because when mum is healthy (physically, mentally and emotionally), she functions better and is a better mum.

The other reason is, when you’re a mum of a little girl, your daughter is learning from you. When you prioritise your own health, you’re teaching her how to take care of herself. Afterall, children learn by copying, they are always watching, listening, and learning from us.

When mum is happy and healthy, there’s a ripple effect through the whole family. Just like when you throw a pebble into a pond and you see ripples spread through the water.

If your looking for ways to improve on your overall wellness, a great place to start is by using simple handy tools like my Health and Wellness printable trackers and gratitude pages. They were designed to make it easy for you to set and achieve personal goals relating to your health and lifestyle habits, and to help you practice gratitude.
