If you’re reading this, you’re probably about to become a new school mum or have recently become one. Welcome!
I inherited the title of “school mum” for the first time when I was in my early forties. All of my girlfriends had been through this period in their life well before me, some as much as 20 years earlier! I felt a little alone as I didn’t have a mum friend to share the experience with.
I had no idea what to expect or what was expected of me. The nerves and anticipation started to kick in after I enrolled my daughter in her new school. This was a whole 6 months before school was due to start.
I spent a lot of that first year of school learning on the go and was frustrated at times because I wasn’t sure or aware of the things I should be doing. I wanted to be like all the other mums at school who had years of school experience and knew how it all worked.
