A few years ago, at my daughter’s Kindergarten orientation, the school principal said something I’ve never forgotten. She said, the most powerful thing a parent can do for their child is to read to them every night for at least 20 minutes.
Personally, if I could choose one gift to pass on to my daughter to last her a lifetime, it would be the love of reading. This is because, when a child reads, there is so much for them to gain.
Dr Seuss said it the best when he wrote – “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
How reading can benefit your little girl
Children who read, or are read to regularly, have better and improved:
- Vocabulary
- Attention span
- Writing skills
- Problem Solving skills
- Knowledge
- Listening Skills
- Empathy
- Language Development
- Concentration
- Memory
- Creativity and Imagination
