This post is for all the first-time school mums in Australia, who are wondering what to expect when their little girl starts school.
Starting school isn’t just a big deal for your little girl – it’s a huge milestone for you, too. If you’re stepping into the role of a school mum for the first time, you’re in the right place. I’ve been in your shoes and remember how it felt – I’m here to make the road a little smoother.
I became a school mum in my early forties – long after most of my friends had already been through it, some nearly 20 years earlier! When my turn came, I felt a little isolated. I didn’t have a close mum friend to talk things through with, ask questions, or simply share the experience.
I had no idea what to expect or what was expected of me as a school mum. The nerves kicked in the moment I enrolled my daughter, and that was six months before her first day! The anticipation felt overwhelming at times.
During that first year, I learned everything as I went. I often felt unsure and frustrated because I wasn’t sure what I should be doing. I wanted to be like all the experienced mums at school.
That’s why, when I started this blog, one of the very first things I created was a comprehensive information pack just for first-time school mums – because I know firsthand how helpful it would have been for me.
I’ve included everything I wish someone had told me before my daughter started school – the practical tips, the little reminders, and the things no one really explains.
39-Page Information Pack for First-Time School Mums in Australia

What you’ll receive in the pack:
- My 12 Must-Know Tips for School Mums – these are practical tips to help each school day run smoother. By knowing these tips, you’ll feel better informed, prepared and confident.
- Homework Expectations – Yes, even little first year students get homework! I’ll touch on what to expect so you can support your child ahead of time with confidence.
- Helpful Resources for Your Daughter – Including a simple morning checklist to make getting ready easier, a weekly planner to help her stay on top of school tasks, and printable lunchbox cards to help you stay connected with her each school day.
- Guidance on Playdates, Friendships & More – Insight into school friendships and navigating playdates to help your child thrive socially at school.
